SAINTS PETER AND PAUL NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2015

August 2015

From Father Gregory DuDash:

PASTOR SEARCH

I thought that this newsletter message might be written by the new priest assigned to Saints Peter and Paul. Unfortunately, while we had 2 candidates; none are coming thus far and we need to begin our pastor search once again.

This is very disappointing as we had a very nice visit in May from a seminarian and his wife and liked them both as they, apparently, liked us. The bishop has decided not to ordain this man and so our hopes are dashed, for now.

TEMPORY PASTORATE

I am the interimpastor –that is, I will try to serve the parish until we can find a suitable pastor.

Some have asked why I might not be the pastor. To this there are several reasons: 1. I am over 70 and feel a new, energetic, full time or mostly full-time priest is needed 2. I am retired after 43 years of serving the church and would like to remain in retirement. 3. We live more than an hour from the church and a pastor needs to live closer to most of the parishioners

HOW IS THE PARISH DOING?

Thank heavens we have pulled together these months after the retirement of our beloved fr. Stephen Sinari and the parish has,   I believe, progressed. Many people have given much time and money to keep the parish intact Thank you!

WHAT SHOULD WE BE DOING?

While keeping intact is good, we really need to take this time and investigate with the Holy Spirit, the mission of the parish – What is it? Better: Why is it? How do we relate to each other? How do we relate to our community? Is what we have been doing those thing we should be doing? These are essential questions that need answering –and it would be best to answer them during this interim time between priests.

A HOLY PARISH

A parish is more than a building. A parish is more than the people in that building. Few of us are Holy - but the parish is a Holy Thing –we call it the “Body of Christ” and each Sunday we pray that the Holy Spirit “will come upon us and upon these gifts here offered. ” These cannot be just nice words.- Jesus said that we will be responsible for every word we utter.

WE NEED YOU!

So please think about joining us on a more regular basis. We need you! We don’t need “come-once-in-while folks” but people willing to accept Christ’s invitation to be “one body!” We can’t escape it - that means regular and full-in!

Yours in Christ

H. Gregory DuDash, Archpriest, Interim Pastor

THE ALL-AMERICAN COUNCIL JULY 20-24

ABOUT THE HOMEBOUND - FROM FATHER GREGORY

Above you see the parishioners that we pray who are ill and need our prayers.

Things we need to know about those who are ill/home-bound:

  1. Because they may not be able to come to Liturgy, they are still part of our parish and need our prayers.
  2. Father Gregory only knows about those who have been brought to his attention. There are definitely more ill and shut-in and it would be appreciated if you would notify him should you know anyone ill/shut-in so that they could be visited and prayed for.

Sunday, 2 August:   PRESENTATION ON ALBANIA

Donna Bacon recently returned from a short-term mission trip to Shen Vlash, Albania. She spent two weeks at the Home of Hope orphanage at Shen Vlash where she worked with a team of seven other short-term missionaries to prepare and deliver a summer camp program for the children at the Home of Hope.  Donna gave a presentation of her trip to Albania and shared her missionary experience with us.

 Presented by Father Dmitri Carrelas

"The Church is a hospital not a court. It bestows forgiveness; it does not demand accountability for the sin. Say to God: “Against Thee only have I sinned and done this evil before Thee” (Ps. 50:6), and He will forgive you. Show Him that you repent, and He will have mercy on you. If we do our part, God will do His part." (St John Chrysostom)
